OBITUARY: VIRGINIA NELSON

Virginia "Jeanie" Hester Nelson, the daughter of Charles Ross and Hester Evaline (Peterson), Teninty was born in Harrison County, Iowa on December 31, 1927 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on July 10, 2007, at the age of 79.

Jeanie was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Harrison County where she graduated from high school in Neola, Iowa. Following high school she continued her education and taught at a country school for five years.

Jeanie was united in marriage to Lawrence O. "Larry" Nelson on February 26, 1952 at Neola, Iowa. They enjoyed rearing three children. When her children were in junior high school, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse where she went on to attend Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa graduating in 1969 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Jeanie was known by patients as the singing nurse who gave the best shots. She worked in the nursing field in the North Platte hospital and the Aurora Medical Center. She later worked at the Hamilton Manor and Hearthstone in York.

Jeanie will also be remembered for her many artistic talents. She painted many pictures in oil and watercolor to which many family and friends happily received. She was remembered for her love to paint on china plates and dolls; and for her skills to make fancy doll clothes and quilts. Many will have memories of her artistic abilities as she taught many how to make pies and to plant flower gardens. To relax she would cord on the piano her own songs. Larry and Jeanie also touched the lives of several children during their five years as foster parents, both in North Platte and Aurora. Many were touched by her love for people. She loved to share her faith in Jesus Christ. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Aurora Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Gladys Cooper and one brother, Paul Hadfield

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Lawrence Nelson of Aurora; two sons, Robert (Linda) Nelson of Davenport, Iowa and Dale Joe (Rhonda) Nelson of Chapman, Kansas; daughter Helen (George) Rodriguez of Paola, Kansas; Nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Janette, Ryan, Jessica, Scott, Steven, Nathan, Joshua and Benjamin; five great grandchildren, Samantha, Jonathan, Isabelle, Steven, and Jason; brother James Hadfield of Omaha; and sister Maxine (Don) Tatreau of North Carolina.
