Dorothy Newlun

Dorothy Newlun, age 95, of Aurora, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 31st at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: DOROTHY NEWLUN

Dorothy Genevieve Newlun, the daughter of Fred W. and Genevieve (Austin) Penner, was born in Stockham, Nebraska on March 30, 1914 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on August 27, 2009, at the age of 95.

She grew up in Stockham and attended Stockham High School through the 11th grade.

On January 4, 1932, she was united in marriage to Marion Newlun at Aurora. They lived in Aurora and were married 54 years before Marion passed away on July 3, 1986. Dorothy worked at Farmers Union Creamery, Jack & Jill Grocery Store, Red & White Grocery Store and the Aurora Mall.

Dorothy was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, Dorcas Circle and the church choir. She also belonged to the Aurora Women’s Club. Dorothy’s first priority was always her family. She loved cooking and spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marion; daughter, Marianne Newlun; two brothers, Ernie and Fritz Penner; two sisters, Anne Medaris and Thelma Fenster; two sisters-in-law, Betty Penner and Gwen Penner; two brothers-in-law, Maurice Medaris and Dale Fenster and a great-grandson, Peyton Newlun.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tom (Arlene) Newlun of Aurora; daughter, Betty (Van) Van Luchene; one grandson, Mike (Pam) Newlun of Beatrice, whom they raised, and 6 other grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Lawrence ‘Curly’ Penner of Aurora and Melvin ‘Jake’ (Elaine) Penner of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Fern Penner of Hebron and many other relatives and friends.
