Delma Nielsen

Delma “Dee” Nielsen, age 85, the widow of Orville V. Nielsen, of Aurora died Sunday morning, July 18, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday at the Presbyterian UCC Church in Aurora. Rev. Cathy Allen will officiate. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. in Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery south of Minden. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Thursday at Higby Mortuary.

OBITUARY: DELMA NIELSEN

Delma “Dee” Margrethe Nielsen, the daughter of Mads and Sarah (Christensen) Madsen, was born in Minden, Nebraska on November 6, 1913 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on July 18, 1999, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 12 days.

She was born and raised in Minden, Nebraska where she graduated from Minden High School.

She was united in marriage to Orville V. Nielsen on November 3, 1934 in Minden, Nebraska. They lived in Clay Center, Kansas, Minden, Hildreth, Fremont, Plattsmouth and Aurora, Nebraska during their marriage. She was co-owner and Vice President of First Securities Corp. of Aurora with her husband between 1957-1994. Orville and Dee traveled a great deal due to their involvement in civic and service organization. The enjoyed several trips to Europe to visit relatives and friends. Orville passed away on April 12, 1990.

Dee was involved in many civic and service organizations. She was involved in the following: Past President Federated Women’s Club, Past District Director and District Vice President of Jr. Women’s Club, Past Co-Chairman of March of Dimes, Past Chairman of Keep America Beautiful, a volunteer for the Red Cross and other service organizations, member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Pink Lady, member of Aurora & Plattsmouth Rotary Ann’s and received Rotary’s Paul Harris Award, Past State Chairman Stewardship committee, Past local chairman Church Board, past Deaconess and past choir member of the Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, member of Presbyterian UCC in Aurora, member Republican Women-State of Nebraska, Past member of Public Speaking Aid. She served as county chairman for many civic organizations or fund drives in Plattsmouth and Aurora over the years including: cancer drive, March of Dimes, Easter Seals and heart drive.

Honors that Dee received were the Bronze Plaque for Outstanding Work in Organizing most Clubs as District Junior Clubs in the state of Nebraska. Special recognition for Outstanding Work done as Chairman March of Dimes for County from National Foundation Infantile Paralysis, Inc; National Social Director for March of Dimes.

Dee was very involved in the Eastern Star. She was initiated into Home Chapter #89 Order of the Eastern Star in Plattsmouth and transferred membership to Aurora Chapter #93, where she served as Matron and in other offices. Dee also was president and a member of Aurora Kensington chapter Order of Eastern Star; Past District Grand Supervisor 1969-1972 for the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Nebraska; and for Supreme Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star she was Grand Representative to Scotland from Nebraska for three years and attended Supreme Grand Chapter in Scotland during this tenure. She was Trustee for six years to Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children. She served on Examing Board, Resolutions and Auditing committees Nebraska Order of Eastern Star. Dee was Member, Past Queen and served on election board of Supreme Temple as Junior Past Queen and held numerous other offices of the Daughters of the Nile #108 Naamah Temple, Hastings.

Her parents, husband and granddaughter Kendall Suzanne Nielsen, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son Vernon Stuart Nielsen and his wife Sandra Sue of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Zandra Dee Nelson of Aurora, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Stuart Scott Nielsen and wife Clara, Stephen Kent Nielsen and wife Docia, Kimberly Sue (Nelson) Moss and husband K C and Kelly Todd Nelson and his wife Lori; 7 great-grandchildren; Nicole Cheyenne Nielsen, Ashley Courtney, Alexander Kent Nielsen, Erik Michael Nielsen, Kinsey Rochelle Moss, Keegan Andersen Moss and Matthew Bennett Nelson; Sisters-in-law Marg Madsen, Violet Nielsen and Geraldine Nielsen and Nephew, Dr. James R. Madsen.
