Artha Nilson

Artha V. Nilson, age 96, of Aurora died Tuesday morning, March 2, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the Aurora Cemetery. Dr. Heung-Gyu Kim will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before service at Higby Mortuary.

OBITUARY: ARTHA NILSON

Artha Victoria Nilson, the daughter of Erick and Hulda (Erickson) Nilson, was born on her parents’ farm near Marquette, Nebraska on July 5, 1903 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 2, 2000, at the age of 96 years, 7 months and 27 days.

At the age of fourteen, she moved with her parents to Aurora, Nebraska. She received her early education in the public schools of Hamilton County, and was graduated from Aurora High School. She attended Kearney State Teachers’ College, the University of Washington, and was graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1930. June of 1934, she received the Master of Arts degree from Colorado State Teachers College, Greeley, Colorado. She was a member of Sigma Lambda and Kappa Delta Pi honorary educational fraternities.

She taught school seventeen years. Later she worked as a retail clerk in Omaha, Nebraska, Denver, Colorado, San Diego, California and Washington, D.C.

In 1948 she returned to Aurora to care for her elderly parents, and made her home in Aurora for several years. In January 1965, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and returned to Aurora, in November 1999, to reside at the Hamilton Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Charlie, Arthur Edward, Victor and Oskar; and five sisters, Lydia Magnuson, Esther McMahon, Edith Hansen, Hulda Nolan, and Hannah Hansen.

She is survived by one brother, Arthur A. Nilson, of Aurora; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
