Lola Nilson

Mrs. Lola B. Nilson, 94 of Aurora, died May 13, 1991 at the Skyline Retirement Villa, Omaha, Nebraska.

Services for Mrs. Nilson were held on Sunday afternoon, May 19 at 4 P.M. in the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church. The Rev. Phil Kayser, a grandson-in-law and pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Omaha, and the Rev. Bruce Thorson, pastor of the home church, officiated. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery.

The casket carriers were Dan, Edwin, Lowell, and Vic Nilson, Jerroll Walter and Richard Gustafson. The Higby Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

OBITUARY: LOLA NILSON

Lola Phoebe Bogseth Nilson was born February 10, 1897 near Pibel, Wheeler County, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Olaus and Christiana Warner Bogseth. At the age of six, she moved with her family to a farm two miles east of Ericson. She attended the Ericson High School for three years, then transferred to the Lutheran Midland College Academy, Atchison, Kansas, for her senior year, graduating in 1914. She graduated from Nebraska State Teacher’s college, Kearney, Nebraska, with a two year teacher’s certificate. After teaching in rural schools in Wheeler County, she began teaching in Marquette in 1919 and later in York.

On July 30, 1923, she was united in marriage to Victor R. Nilson at her parents’ home near Ericson. They farmed northeast of Marquette until 1926. At this time they moved to their farm northwest of Aurora where they lived until 1983 when they moved to the Skyline Retirement Villa, Omaha.

She was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ericson, Nebraska, and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church when she was 14 years of age. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a teen-ager and has been deeply interested in Sunday School, missions, and all phases of Christian service.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Aurora, the H.E.O. Club and the World War I Barracks Auxiliary. She was a past president of the Hamilton County Women’s Clubs.

Survivors include three sons, Rev. V. Robert Nilson, Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Lyle W. Nilson, Omaha, Nebraska, Mark A. Nilson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, one son Erick, her parents, one brother and four sisters.
