Signe Nissen
Signe I. Nissen, age 93, of Aurora died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, April 26th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Rev. Pam Ciulla will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: Signe I. Nissen Signe I. Nissen, the daughter of Jens and Johanne (Pedersen) Jeppesen, was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 9, 1913 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 23, 2006, at the age of 93. From infancy to 1918 she lived in Denmark. Upon returning to the United States at age 5, she lived in Marquette, Nebraska. Signe received her education in District 20 and Grand View Academy in Des Moines, Iowa. On December 30, 1934 she was united in marriage to Harlan A. Nissen at Kronborg. They farmed in the Kronborg vicinity all their married life. Harlan passed away on December 8, 1972. In 1980, Signe moved to Hampton and in 2003 she moved to Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Signe was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg, Nebraska for 88 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, Axel and Harry Rasmussen; sister, Annie Andersen; and grandson Chris Nissen. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gayla Hammond of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sons, Lanny of Lincoln, Nebraska and Deryl and daughter-in-law Deborah of Marquette, Nebraska; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, sister and brother-in-law Martha and Kenneth Ortegren of Vandalia, Illinois and sister-in-law Pauline Nissen and several nieces and nephews. |
