Elmer ObermeierElmer Obermeier, age 73 of Aurora, died Thursday morning at his home in Aurora. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Rev. Al Duminy officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 P. M. Sunday evening at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: Elmer Obermeier Elmer Carl Obermeier, the son of Henry and Ida (Sundermeier) Obermeier, was born in Hamilton County on April 26, 1926, and died at his home in Aurora on January 27, 2000 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 1 day. He grew up near Giltner, where he graduated from high school, and farmed with his parents. He served his country in the U.S. Army from December 18, 1944, until his discharge on November 21, 1946. He served in the Philippines and was later stationed in Japan. Following his discharge he returned to the farm near Giltner. On September 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lois Mohr, at Grand Island. In 1964, they moved to Aurora. He was employed by the Farmer’s Union and later Bob worked at Hope Furniture. In 1975, they opened Obermeier’s, Inc., which they operated until 1986. He worked for Daly Realty in Grand Island until June of 1988, when he was appointed Hamilton County Treasurer, and served until he retired in December of 1994. Elmer had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island, and at the time of his death he was a member of the Messiah Lutheran church in Aurora, where he had served on the church board. He had been a 4-H member as a child, belonged to the Aurora American Legion and V.F.W.; was a member of the Keystone Masonic Lodge in Phillips, and belonged to the Hastings Shrine. He also belonged to the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, the Platt-Duetsche Society, the Liederkranz, the Saddle Club, all in Grand Island, and the Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and ballroom dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Raymond and Paul. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Lois of Aurora; two sons, Craig and his wife Cheryl of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Glenn and his wife Nancy of Aurora; one daughter Terrie Urban and her husband Jim of Emerson, Iowa; three brothers, Clarence of Grand Island, Dale of Aurora, and Henry of North Platte; one sister Marie Stoltenberg of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis, Matthew, Ryan and Bradley Urban, John Obermeier, Travis Midkiff, Carlet Obermeier, and Rebecca, Elizabeth and Andrew Obermeier, and one great grandson Jacob Lewis. |
