Greg Obermeier

Greg Obermeier, age 50, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 30th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Rev. Bill Pavuk will officiate. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 P.M. on Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: GREG OBERMEIER

Gregory Gene Obermeier, the son of Melvin and Maryellen (Walker) Obermeier, was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 16, 1962 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on March 27, 2012, at the age of 50.

Greg grew up in the Giltner area and graduated from Giltner High School in 1980. He attended UNL for a year before going to work for Schimmers in Grand Island, Harv’s Farm Supply in Giltner and then Giltner Coop. In 1988, Greg went to work for IAMS, until his health prevented him.

Greg was united in marriage to Barbara Geiger on May 17, 1995 at Silver Bells Wedding Chapel in Reno, Nevada. They moved from Giltner to Aurora in October 2000.

Greg was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed rodeos, woodworking, car racing, bowling and watching and cheering for Giltner High School Sports.

Those left who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara of Aurora; daughter, Brittanie (Nathan) Nelson of North Platte; three sons, Bryce Obermeier of North Platte, Carter Obermeier of Aurora and Dillon Obermeier of Aurora; step-daughter, Georgia Johnston and fiancé Meredith Graham of Kearney; step-son, Robert (Dawnita Mohler) Johnston of Lincoln; two grandchildren, MaKenna & Alexis; two step-grandchildren, Meghan & Trevin; parents; Melvin & Maryellen Obermeier of Giltner; three brothers, Randall (Deb Bontz) Obermeier of Giltner, Monte (Susan) Obermeier of Giltner and Douglas (Rhonda) Obermeier of Lincoln; sister, Pamela (Dan) Hastings of Giltner; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews.
