Chester Olson

Funeral Services were held 3:00 P.M., Monday, March 13, 1995 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Interment was held at the Aurora Cemetery.

Obituary: Chester Olson

Chester Wayne Olson, the son of George and Amanda (Christiansen) Olson, was born on a farm northwest of Hampton, Nebraska, on July 20, 1912, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 9, 1995, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 19 days.

He attended country school district # 8, and in 1926, the family moved to a farm northeast of Aurora, in 1930, he graduated from Aurora High School, and began farming with his father. In 1936 he started working for the Agricultural Adjustment Act.

On August 7, 1938, he was united in marriage to Wilma Sims at her parent’s home near Phillips. They began farming north of Aurora.

On February 10, 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent 26 months in Europe with the 9th Air Force, and was discharged on December 6, 1945.

In 1946 he worked for the R.E.A. in Grand Island, and from 1947 to 1953, he worked for the Aurora Elevator. From 1953 to 1977 he was employed at the Aurora Farmer’s State Bank, was Vice-President and served on the Board of Directors, retiring on February 1, 1977.

Chet was baptized in the Aurora First Christian Church in October of 1924, and transferred his membership to the Aurora United Methodist Church in 1958. He was an Aurora City Councilman for 5 years, served as City Treasurer for 24 years, and was Treasurer of District 4R for 28 years. He was also a charter member of the Aurora V.F.W. Post #4993 and a member of the Aurora American Legion, Lester S. Harter Post #42. He served as president of the Aurora Rotary Club in 1972, and had served on the Chamber of Commerce Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Wilma of Aurora; his son Dr. Gerald Olson and his wife Jane of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother Earl of Marshalltown Iowa; 2 sisters, Doris Petersen of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Edith Lash of Aurora; a grad daughter Ingrid Olson of Omaha; and many other relatives and friends.
