Gladys Olson
Gladys Olson, age 90, of Aurora, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Hamilton Manor. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 28th at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sheryl Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. OBITUARY: GLADYS OLSON Gladys Lucille Olson, the daughter of John F. and Anna P. (Anderson) Johnson, was born in New Folden, Minnesota on October 27, 1918 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 25, 2009, at the age of 90. They moved to Sacred Heart, Minnesota when she was 6 years old. She attended District 94 Rural School and graduated from Granite Falls High School. She graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College, and taught at several rural country schools in Renville County, Minnesota. On June 18, 1947, she married Clifford R. Olson at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. They lived in Hector, where Gladys taught school until 1954 when they moved to Aurora. She was employed for 19 ½ years at the Aurora Memorial Hospital as a dietary supervisor. Gladys was baptized in the Lutheran Church on December 15, 1918 and was confirmed on October 9, 1932 at the Hawk Creek Lutheran Church. She was a charter member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora, a member of the church women’s group and the Church Council and taught the Bethel Bible Series. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hamilton Manor Auxiliary, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Merry Jane’s Extension Club, a Boy Scout troop leader and Girl Scout troop leader. She held offices in many of the organization she was a member of. Gladys enjoyed her church, gardening, her grandchildren and her volunteer work. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Raymond Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, David Olson of Aurora and Timothy Olson of St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Karen Lenoski of North Hollywood, California; 3 grandchildren, Jason Litz of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sara Litz of Orlando, Florida and Janel Olson of St. Joseph, Missouri; brother, John Arlen (Phyllis) Johnson of Sacred Heart, Minnesota; sister, Bernice Barber of Spicer, Minnesota and sister-in-law, Mabel Johnson of Granite Falls, Minnesota. |
