Harry Olson

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 1994 at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Harry Olson

Harry Olson, the son of Olaf and Sofia (Johanson) Olsson was born near Arvika, Sweden, on April 13, 1900, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 7, 1994, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 24 days.

He grew up and received his education in Sweden, and in 1917, he immigrated to the United States, arriving in Comstock, Nebraska, where he worked as a farm laborer. He later settled in the Phillips area. In 1923, he became a naturalized citizen.

In 1922, he was united in marriage to Mary Devore, and she preceded him in death in 1946. In January of 1947, he married Rosalie Cornelius at Grand Island. She died June 22, 1984.

Harry farmed and owned and drove a stock truck, and from 1952 until 1955, he owned the lumber yard and hardware store in Phillips. He then owned the farm implement business at their farm near Phillips until 1965, when it was sold to Kreutz brothers. He has resided at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora, for the past several years.

Harry was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church, belonged to the Phillips Keystone Masonic Lodge #62, AF & AM, the Phillips Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #204, and was a member of the Eagles Club in Grand Island. He enjoyed playing cards and going to auction sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives, Mary and Rosalie; 2 sons, Donald Olson, and LaVern in infancy, one grandson; 3 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son Ralph of Phillips; a step-son Robert Cornelius of Ogallala; 2 step-daughters, Betty Mabon of Phillips and Erma Bergholz of Grand Island; one brother, Richard of Arvika, Sweden; a daughter-in-law, Mary Olson of Aurora; 16 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.
