Fostin (Toot) Omel
Fostin (Toot) Omel, age 92, of Giltner, died Sunday morning, December 14, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 16th at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Rev. Nora Leeds will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. on Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: FOSTIN (TOOT) OMEL Fostin Leroy Omel, the son of Armand H. and Alta (Lanterman) Omel, was born in Giltner, Nebraska on October 5, 1911 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on December 14, 2003, at the age of 92. Toot was raised in Giltner and attended Giltner Public Schools. He worked on the family farm. Toot was united in marriage to Velma M. Cline on March 6, 1938, at Polk, Nebraska. They farmed and raised cattle near Giltner. Velma passed away on August 24, 1979. Toot was very active. He belonged to the Flying Farmers and the Eagles. He was a member of the Greenwood Club, Aurora Country Club and Board member for the Giltner Cemetery Association. Toot was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, card player and great baseball fan. He loved his family and airplanes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; four sisters, Evelyn Hylton, Verna Bremer-Hylton, Liva Omel and Donna Hurley and a brother, Leal Omel. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his three children, Marsha Seim and her husband Larry of Giltner, Gloria Graham and her husband Rudy of Carlilse, Iowa and Elton (Skeeter) Omel and his special friend Kay Skupa of Aurora; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and companion, Lois Nuss of Giltner. He is also survived by four brothers, Myron Omel and his wife Martha of Aurora, Warren Omel and his wife Pat of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jerry Omel and his wife Lucille of Aurora and Marion Omel and his wife Delores of Grand Island and one brother-in-law, Howard Hurley of Everett, Washington. |
