Alta OmelFuneral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 18, 1988 at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery. OBITUARY: Alta Omel Alta Omel was born in a sod house near Giltner on January 21, 1889, to Oscar and Maggie Cooper Lanterman. She received her education in the country schools and her entire life was spent on a farm in the Giltner community, moving to Aurora in the later years of her life. On February 17, 1909, Alta married Armand H. Omel in the farm home of her parents near Giltner, and except for the first year of her marriage, their entire life was spent on this same farm 3 miles west and 1 ¼ miles north of Giltner until 1955 when they retired and moved to Aurora. Ten children were born to them. Alta and Armand were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1959. Mr. Omel died December 6, 1962. In her girlhood Alta attended the Presbyterian Church in Giltner later confessing her faith and being baptized in the Giltner Christian Church. After moving to Aurora she transferred her membership to the Aurora Christian Church where she remained active and attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. Those remaining to cherish her memory are five sons; Fostin (Toot), Myron, Jerry all of Aurora; Marion of Grand Island; Warren (Bud) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and two daughters, Verna Hylton of Santa Paula, California and Donna Hurley of Everett, Washigton. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and several step-grandchildren; and sister, Fern Pepper of Detroit Michigan. She was preceded in death by one son Leal, two daughters Liva Omel and Evelyn Hylton, one grandchild, Kevin Omel and by three brothers Roscoe, George and Earl Lanterman. |
