Verna Onken

Verna Onken, age 93, of Aurora, died, Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Hamilton Manor.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 19th at Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora. Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island at 2:00. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: VERNA ONKEN

Verna Amanda Onken, the daughter of Barney and Ida (Fitzke) Onken, was born on the family farm near Glenvil, Nebraska on June 20, 1914 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 15, 2007, at the age of 93.

She was raised in Glenvil and attended Mulberry Country School through the 8th grade.

Verna was united in marriage to Clinton K. Onken on June 7, 1939. They farmed northwest of Aurora. Clinton passed away on May 18, 1997.

Verna was a member of the Cozad Christian Church. She was affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora through her family in Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Arnold Onken and half-brother, Armin Onken.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Duane L. (Betsy) Onken of Aurora and Marlene (Gene) Roether of Eustis; two brothers, Larry (Janet) Onken of Fort Collin, Colorado and Elwood (Carol) Onken of Glenvil and a sister, Dorothy (Darrell) Bortis of Hastings.
