Alice OswaldFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 19, 1992 at the Aurora Pleasant View Bible Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Alice Oswald Alice Elizabeth Oswald, the daughter of Emanuel and Nevada (Toof) Smith, was born on a farm near Giltner, Nebraska, on November 21, 1905, and died at her home southwest of Aurora, Nebraska, on February 16, 1992, at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 25 days. She grew up near Giltner, and attended Excelsior District #72, near Giltner. On August 6, 1927, she was united in marriage to Raymond S. Oswald, at Aurora, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1975. After their marriage they farmed and had a dairy herd, southwest of Aurora, when illness forced them to moved to California in the mid 1930’s, and they lived in Turlock and Denair, where she worked in the fruit sheds, and was a housewife. In 1942, they returned to Hamilton County, where they farmed for over 50 years southwest of Aurora. Alice worked as a cook at the Aurora Public Schools, and was head cook for several years. She also worked in several restaurants in Aurora, and worked at a box factory in Grand Island. She was baptized at the Prairie Gem Church as a child, and after her marriage she was baptized in the Pleasant View Mennonite Church. She was also a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary, and the North Community Club. Her hobbies included cooking and baking, crocheting, and gardening and fishing. For the last 17 years she has been disabled from a fall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 7 brothers, Henry Smith, Ralph Smith, Wes Smith, Frank Smith, Edwin Smith, Claude Smith and Bill Smith. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her 2 sons, Gerald of Aurora, and Ralph of Gillette, Wyoming; one daughter, Lucille Ulmer of Aurora; 3 sisters, Esther Oswald of Aurora, Mabelle Andrews of Canby, Oregon, and Fern James of Aurora; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. |
