Dale Oswald
Dale Oswald, age 83, of Aurora, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at his home in Aurora. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 13th at the Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Phil Oswald will officiate. Interment will be at 1:00 P.M. at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be from 3 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Gideon Society. OBITUARY: DALE OSWALD Dale Oswald, the son of Theodore R. and Vesta (Adams) Oswald was born May 5, 1921 at Aurora, Nebraska and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 9, 2004, at the age of 83. Dale attended elementary school at District #64. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1939. During his high school years he enjoyed math and the sciences. Dale played football and especially enjoyed the music programs. After graduation he farmed with his father until October 8, 1942 at which time he was inducted into the Army Medical Corps. He was stationed at Camp Barkley outside Abilene, Texas. Dale attended Clerk School and was accepted into the Camp Glee Club. He never made it overseas but was stationed at a number of different Army instillations ending up at Camp Beale California, where he assisted in setting up a Separation Center. While he was stationed at Camp Barkley he was united in marriage to Marian Rath on June 19, 1943, his sweetheart from home. Marian was able to spend time with him at the different camps he was stationed at. Dale was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1945 after serving for 3 ½ years. After he was discharged, they returned to the farm west of Aurora where they lived until 1987. Seven children were born to this union. They were Randy, William, Steven, Rebecca, Philip, Sandra and Jay D. He was active in his Church, Pleasant View Bible all of his life, singing in the Choir-teaching Sunday school and the Church Board and Deacon Board for some 30 years. He sang in a quartet with three friends at many functions around the community and later sang with three of his sons. Dale served on a number of county boards including the Aurora School Board. He enjoyed teaching home Bible Studies for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister who died in infancy; a brother, Estel, who passed away at age 13 and three grandchildren, Amron, Leah and Jodi, children of Jay and Linda. He is survived by his wife Marian of Aurora; children, Randy (Annie) Oswald of Omaha, William (Ann) Oswald of Aurora, Steve (Christine) Oswald of Aurora, Colorado, Rebecca (Don) Luke of Apple Valley, California, Philip (LeeAnn) Oswald of Elk Grove, California, Sandra (James) Leake of Venice, Florida and Jay D. (Linda) Oswald of Aurora; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many friends. |
