Alta Otto

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 18, 1990 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Alta Louise Otto

Alta Louise Otto, the daughter of Samuel and Margaretha (Baumetz) Otto, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on October 29, 1910, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 16, 1990, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 7 days.

She grew up in Aurora and attended the Aurora Public Schools, graduating in 1929. She graduated from the University of Nebraska, and received her advanced degree in Educational Administration at the University of Wyoming at Laramie.

Alta Louise taught in Hamilton County Rural Schools from 1929 to 1936, and from 1937 to 1950, she taught in the Aurora Public Schools. She was County Superintendent from 1950 until 1956, and from 1956 to 1974, she was Elementary Principal in the Aurora School, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, and the National Educational Association; was past President of Hamilton County Education Association of Nebraska, and the County Superintendents Association, and belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma, Gamma Chapter, and the State Retired Teachers Association. She was also the organizer and honorary member of the Aurora High School Alumni Association.

She was president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Auxiliary board of directors, and the Memorial Hospital board of trustees. She served on the Hamilton County Foundation board of directors, and the Scholarship Committee.

Alta Louise was a faithful member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and held numerous offices in the church throughout the years, presently serving on the Memorial Committee.

She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star #93, of the Aurora Chapter, belonged to PEO, and was a member of the Friends of the Library. In 1979, she was the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce “Community Service Award” and was awarded the “Lady of the Rose” by the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Ralph and Roy, 2 sisters, Mabel Broyles and Violet Wilson.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are one brother, Raymond (Jim) Otto of Madison, Wisconsin, one sister Grace Wood of Salt Lake City, Utah; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
