John G. Ough

Memorial Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 11, 1993 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Inurnment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: John G. Ough

John G. Ough, the son of Fred and Ethel (Culp) Ough, was born in Ohiowa, Nebraska, on June 30, 1920, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, on October 5, 1993, at the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

John was raised and graduated from high school in Strang, Nebraska. He served in the armed forces during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

On November 7, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lois Carter of Bruning, NE, in the chapel of the Kansas City Canteen in Kansas City, Missouri. To this marriage were born Merrianne Jones, Henderson, NE, Marcia Ough, Banjul, the Gambia, Africa, and John C. Ough of Lincoln, NE. His 2 grandchildren are Amy Jones and Jesse Howard.

John enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and later coached Pony and Junior Leagues. Since he enjoyed working with young people he led 4-H cattle clubs for many years, taught church school classes and also sponsored church youth groups in the local church and at Camp Comeca.

John, with help form the United Methodist Men and his own ingenuity was instrumental in getting a thriving cattle herd established on the Santee Sioux Reservation. Later he was also able to assist in getting one started on the Kickapoo Reservation in Kansas.

As a salesman John formed lasting friendships with area farmers and other businessmen. His long time association with the people at Santee rewarded him with close ties and friendships.

John’s family has always been first priority for him and he and Lois extended that family when they helped sponsor the Bouatic family from Laos in 1980. In November 1992 they celebrated with all their loved ones their golden anniversary. His life was a witness to his faith and he will be missed by his loved ones, including his sister Mildred Strain and her husband Phillip, (Kearney, NE) his oldest brother Merle and his wife Eileen, (Alexandria, NE) his twin brother James and his wife Imogene, (Geneva, NE) his youngest brother, Norman and his wife Clara, (Hebron, NE), as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fred and Ethel Ough and a nephew and a niece, his mother-in-law Freda Carter, sister-in-law Maxine Kulba and brother-in-law Lowell Bahe.
