Opal Peard

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 25, 1996 at the Aurora First Christian Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery in Phillips, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Opal Peard

Opal H. Peard, the daughter of Marion and Lizzie (Garris) Hickman, was born at Osceola, Iowa, on March 1, 1900, and died at Grand Island, Nebraska, on November 21, 1996, at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 20 days.

She grew up at York, Nebraska, where she graduated from High School, and then graduated from Spearfish, South Dakota College. She taught school for 7 years in York and at Phillips.

On February 12, 1927, she was united in marriage to Frank Peard at Minden, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1962.

Following her marriage, they farmed near Phillips for over 30 years, and in 1959, they moved into Phillips, where she served as village clerk for 9 years. In 1975 she moved to Cross Roads Court in Aurora, in December of 1990, she moved to Colonial Corner, and in April of 1991, she entered Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Opal was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church, and when she moved to Aurora, she transferred her membership to the Aurora First Christian Church. She taught Sunday School for many years at York and Phillips, was a member of the KK Club in Phillips for over 30 years, and the Aurora Garden Club for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and one grandchild.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her 2 sons, Robert and his wife Mary Ann, and Louis “Swede” Peard and his wife Shirley all of Phillips; one daughter Fern Huffman and her husband Jerry of Denver, Colorado; one brother Joe Hickman of Loup City, one sister Fleda Green of Odessa, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
