Christian Petersen

Christian Petersen, age 87, of Aurora, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the Hamilton Manor.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 17th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Rev. Dan Spearow will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to Ritchie Petersen Scholarship Fund and Hospice. OBITUARY: CHRISTIAN PETERSEN

Christian Brun Petersen, the son of Peter Brun and Ane Marie (Nissen) Petersen, was born in Marquette, Nebraska on June 7, 1922 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 12, 2009, at the age of 87.

Chris grew up in the Kronborg area on the family farm located 5 miles east of Marquette. He was in the Army during World War II from January 1943 to January 1946 where he served in Hawaii and Okinawa. He married Evelyn E. Larsen on March 1, 1946 in Marquette, Nebraska and farmed the homestead where he raised his family of four. Chris farmed, had a Grade A dairy for many years, worked for the Hamilton County Roads Department and drove the school bus for Marquette Consolidated School. Evelyn passed away on March 8, 1995.

On July 27, 1996 he married Verlene Anderson of Polk. He then moved from his home in Kronborg to Polk, where he resided until Verlene passed away in 2008.

Chris was well known for his integrity, honesty and straight forwardness as well as his humor, stories, antics and dancing abilities. Though lacking in formal education he had an innate ability to design and build all kinds of things from equipment to bird feeders and mailbox stands. He was a true friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harald Petersen, sister, Olga Sorensen; wives, Evelyn and Verlene, and one grandson, Ritchie Petersen.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Ray Petersen of Aurora; four children, Allan (Jackie) Petersen of Lincoln, Roger (Rita) Petersen of Marquette, Marcia Gates of Lincoln and Doyle (Terri) Petersen of Firth; four step-sons, Kent (Leanne) Anderson of Paxton, Mark (Bec) Anderson of Aurora, Dana (Sara) Anderson of Marquette and Joel (Cindi) Anderson of Polk; 7 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.
