Donald Peterson

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 1997 at Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette, Nebraska. Interment was held in the Mamre Church Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Donald Eugene Peterson

Donald Eugene Peterson, 72, of Aurora, Nebraska died Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Don was born July 6, 1925, at Marquette, Nebraska to John and Edith (McCoy) Peterson. He grew up in the Marquette area and graduated from Marquette High School in 1942. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from March 1945 to November 1946. He married Gladys Bjorkman July 11, 1945 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. During his days in the armed service they lived in Wyoming and Virginia. Following his discharge from the army he enjoyed farming in the Marquette area. The Peterson family lived 42 years on the farm 2 miles south of Marquette. In November 1991 Don and Gladys moved into their new home in Aurora. He entered the Hamilton Manor on May 10, 1996.

Don served several years as secretary of the Marquette School Board. For some time he served as an assessor for South Platte Precinct and was also a member of the ASCS Board for Hamilton County. He was a member of the Mamre Evangelical Free Church located northeast of Marquette where his talents were used in many capacities. He also served on the board of Polk Bible Camp.

He is survived by his wife Gladys of Aurora; one son Bennett and his wife Connie of Marquette; for daughters, Jeanne and husband Robert Nelson of Cebu City, Philippines; Jeri and husband Danny Willis of Aurora, Doris and husband Steven Meyers of Powell, TN, and Donna and husband Richard Porter of Burwell; three sisters, Irene and husband Kermit Jones of Central City; Shirley and husband Orville Bjorkman of Aurora; Janelle and husband Harold Anderson of Stromsburg; thirteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister, Doris Eileen, who died at birth.
