Gladys Peterson

Gladys Peterson, age 91, of Aurora died Friday morning, August 25, 2000 at Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday at United Methodist Church in Phillips. Rev. Nora Leeds and Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

OBITUARY: GLADYS PETERSON

Gladys Peterson, the daughter of Arthur and Lottie (Grant) Peterson was born in Phillips, Nebraska on March 27, 1909, and died in Aurora, Nebraska, on August 25, 2000, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 28 days.

She grew up in Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School in 1927. Gladys attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943.

Gladys taught school in Cortland, Phillips, Pierce, Blair and the last 28 years at Holdrege—a total of 42 years.

Since retiring in 1971, she has been the volunteer librarian for 25 years at Methodist Memorial Homes at Holdrege.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. Gladys was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an International Honor Society, in Education. She was also a member of the Methodist Memorial Homes Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Herbert Peterson of Boise, Idaho and one nephew, Robert Luthy of Aurora.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Nellie Luthy and her husband Clarence of Aurora; one nephew Dallas Luthy and his wife Doretha of Phillips; four great nieces, two great nephews, 10 great-great nephews and 5 great-great nieces.
