Irvin Peterson

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 10, 1993 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Irvin Peterson

Irvin Leroy Peterson, the son of Elmer and Irene (Pederson) Peterson, was born at Saronville, Nebraska, on November 19, 1908, and died at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora, on December 7, 1992, a the age of 84 years, and 18 days.

He received his primary education at country school near Sutton, and graduated from Sutton High School. In 1930, he received his Bachelors Degree from Hastings College in Mathematics and Science, and in 1939 he received his Masters of Education Degree from the University of Boulder, Colorado.

On July 23, 1933, he was united in marriage to Velma Quig, at Hastings, Nebraska.

In 1930, Irvin began his teaching career at Trumbull, Nebraska, where he was a principal, math and science teacher and coach until 1936, when he became superintendent, until 1945, when he became principal, math teacher and athletic director, at the Aurora, Nebraska High School, until 1965, when he began serving as principal until his retirement in 1974, after 44 years as an administrator and teacher, serving 29 of those years with the Aurora Public School system.

He was very active in teaching associations and was a past member and past president of the Hamilton County Education Association, a past member of the Aurora Education Association, the Nebraska State Education Association, the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals, the Nebraska Schoolmaster’s Club, the Nebraska School Activities Association Committee Central Ten Conference, serving as secretary and president, and was a past member of the board of directors of the Education Service Unit #9, at Hastings, Nebraska.

Irvin was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and served on the administrative board, nominating committees, church building council, and as financial secretary.

He was also a 47 year member of the Aurora Rotary Club, serving as president from 1958 to 1959. Belonged to the Aurora Masonic Lodge #68 A.F. & A.M., and was past master; belonged to the Aurora Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and as past patron. Served on the board of Rainbow Girls, belonged to the Tehama Temple of the Shrine in Hastings, and was a member of the Aurora Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Walter F. Peterson.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Velma of Aurora; 2 nieces Kathleen Robbins of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Verlene Rasgorshek of Omaha; a nephew, Norman Peterson of Monterey, California; a sister-in-law Vera Quig of Hastings, and a brother-in-law Howard Quig of Lincoln.
