Howard Plant

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 1986 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Howard Plant

Howard H. Plant, the son of George and Eunice (Green) Plant, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 9, 1918, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 31, 1986, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 22 days.

He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1936. After graduation he worked for Roberts Construction on highway construction and also worked for Farmer’s Union Creamery, and other jobs before entering the Armed Service. He served his country in the U.S. Army from December 26, 1942 to October 6, 1945, during World War II, serving in Europe in anti Aircraft combat. After his discharge, “Bud” returned to Aurora and was an industrial electrician for E. R. Springer. In 1958 he began working as a maintenance man in the Aurora Post Office, retiring in 1978.

On January 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to Alice (Rains) Mersch, at Aurora.

Bud was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and the Aurora V.F.W. Club and he enjoyed rock hunting and fishing. He was a Past President and Charter member of the Grand Island Earth Science and Society Club, a member of Central Nebraska Rock and Mineral Society of Hastings and a Charter member of Quartzite Road Runners Gem and Mineral Club of Quartzite, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Grace Sorensen.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Alice; 2 step-sons, Bill Mersch of Aurora and Tom Mersch of Marquette; one sister Elsie Wiemann of Lincoln; one nephew Dick Sorensen; and 4 step-grandchildren, and many other close friends.
