Elsie PollatFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 22, 1992 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Elsie Pollat Elsie Beryl Pollat, the daughter of Rudolph and Winnifred (Vedder) Peterjohn, was born at Cozad, Nebraska, on July 21, 1908, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 18, 1992, at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 27 days. Her early years were spent on her parent’s homestead north of Hershey, Nebraska, where she attended school at district #36, near Hershey. Later she lived in North Platte where she graduated from high school. It was at this time she also took piano lessons under the Catholic Sisters careful instruction. After graduation, she attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she earned a teacher’s certificate. She then began teaching in the rural Cozad area, and later in the Cozad public schools for several years. On May 31, 1933, she was united in marriage to Myron A. Pollat, at Lexington, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1988. After their marriage, they were engaged in farming north of Cozad until 1955, when her husband semi-retired and they moved to Omaha. In 1960, they moved to Aurora, where they resided on a farm west of Aurora. In the spring of 1991, she entered the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Elsie was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ, and also belonged to the Trinity Chapter #299 Order of Eastern Star at Omaha, and was also a member of the Omaha Daughters of the Nile. Prior to the 1980’s she was a member of the Colonial Bridge Club in Aurora. During World War II, Elsie was a member of a Cozad club that provided food and served the men on troop trains moving through North Platte. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Erin (John) Pollat of Aurora; a daughter, Gloria Lindberg and her husband Ted of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 4 sisters, Ferne Bille of Casper, Wyoming, Laura Downs and Florence Ware, both of Hershey, Nebraska, and Katherine McCrone of North Platte; 2 granddaughters, Elsie and her husband John Skogstad and Kristine all of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews. |
