Alvin Purdy

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 15, 1997 at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery in Phillips, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Alvin W. Purdy

Alvin Wesley Purdy, the son of Elias and Sadie (Bauder) Purdy, was born near Phillips, Nebraska, on January 6, 1909, and died at Grand Island, Nebraska, on January 13, 1997, at the age of 88 years, and 7 days.

He grew up in the Phillips area, where he attended school, completing the 11th grade, when he had to leave school to care for his mother and do the farming after his father’s death.

On June 20, 1935, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Arnett at York, Nebraska. They continued to farm on the Purdy family farm where he had lived for 85 years.

Alvin was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Charles, Everett, Howard, and Raymond; 2 sisters, Eva England, and Myrtle Wadkins; 3 half-brothers, Rollie, Frank and Clarence; and 2 half-sisters, Lula Bierbower, and Hattie Baker.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy of Phillips; 2 sons, Darrell of Aurora, and Eldon of Omaha; one daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Dale) Stueven of Grand Island; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
