Alvin Rahrs

Alvin Rahrs, age 92, of Aurora, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 23rd at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Revs. Sheryl and Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 P.M. OBITUARY: ALVIN RAHRS

Alvin Rahrs, the son of Henry and Otillie (Mueller) Rahrs, was born in Hampton, Nebraska on December 7, 1915 and died in Omaha, Nebraska on January 19, 2008, at the age of 92.

He grew up in Hampton and attended country school through the 8th grade. Alvin served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Alvin was united in marriage to Elvera Marie Larsen on September 1, 1940 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Kronborg. Following their marriage they lived in Washington State for a year before returning to Nebraska where they lived in Seward until 1952. They moved to Marquette the spring of that year where they farmed together until their retirement. In 1981, Alvin and Elvera moved to Aurora. Elvera passed away on February 22, 2001.

Alvin was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a honorary member of the Hamilton County Historical Society. Alvin enjoyed playing baseball during his younger years and he liked to umpire and watch baseball games later in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Clarence and Elmer Rahrs, and sisters, Alma Rahrs, Rose Gardner, Marcella Driewer, Helena Reetz and Lydia Maronde.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Alvin Bruce Rahrs and family of Hastings, Richard L. Rahrs of Columbus and Jon J. Rahrs and family of Marquette.
