Edna ReadFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 24, 1991 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Edna Read Edna Read, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Gerlach) Hamburger, was born on a farm at Harvard, Nebraska, on March 20, 1904, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on April 21, 1991, at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 1 day. She grew up and attended school in the Harvard vicinity, and her young years were spent at home and doing house wok for people in the area. On August 13, 1915, she was united in marriage to Ralph Read, at Inland, Nebraska. They farmed there until 1936, when they moved to Hamilton County. In 1966, they retired and moved into Aurora. Ralph preceded her in death on April 6, 1981. She continued to live in their home until 1986, when she moved into the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Edna was a member of the Methodist Church at Trumbull, Nebraska. She loved working outdoors in the yard and flowers, and always had a garden. As a young girl she helped her brothers in the fields picking corn, cultivating, and anything there was to do. She continued doing this after her marriage whenever she could. She always helped with chores, milking cows, and etc. In her early years of marriage, she belonged to a couple of area clubs. Otherwise, she pretty much liked to be at home. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 7 brothers, and a son Merle. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Ralph, Jr. of Aurora; 3 daughters, Velda Anderson of Hampton, Nelda Akerson of Aurora, and Arlene Gibson of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. |
