Ralph 'Bub' Read, Jr.

Ralph ‘Bub’ Read, Jr., age 84, of Aurora, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 18th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. OBITUARY: RALPH ‘BUB’ READ, JR.

Ralph Read, Jr., the son of Ralph and Edna Read, Sr., was born in Inland, Nebraska on August 8, 1926 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 15, 2010, at the age of 84.

He grew up in Inland, Giltner and Aurora, where he attended school in each of these communities. Bub then worked for several farmers in Hamilton County. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Signal Corp as part of the 238 Pole Climbers.

On July 20, 1948, he was united in marriage to Roma Jean VanHorn at Aurora. They lived in Aurora, where Bub was a self-employed trucker for many years. He also operated a business in Hampton for a couple of years, before retiring from the Hamilton County Department of Roads. Roma passed away on September 3, 1999.

Bub was a lifetime member of the Eagles and Aurora American Legion Post #42.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, brother, Merle Read and son-in-law, Allan Heiden.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Edna Heiden of Hampton; 3 granddaughters, Talauna Heiden of Overland Park, Kansas, Heather (Kory) Ekhoff of Aurora and Tasha (Kirche) Martin of Indianola and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Nelda Akerson and Velda Anderson both of Aurora and Arlene Gibson of Rosenberg, Texas and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, DeMar (Carol) Burns of York.
