Mildred ReedFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 25, 1997 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Farmer’s Valley Cemetery east of Stockham, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Mildred Reed Mildred May Reed, the daughter of Senator Perry and Abbie (Westcott) Reed, was born at Farmer’s Valley, Hamilton County, on September 27, 1900, and died at York, Nebraska, on September 22, 1997, at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She grew up in the Henderson area, attended School District #1, Farmer’s Valley, graduated form Henderson High School, and attended Peru State College. She then taught rural school near Aurora for one year. On February 18, 1920, she was united in marriage to Simon T. Reed at York. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1974. After their marriage they lived in Grant, Nebraska, until 1922, when they returned to a farm near Giltner. In 1927, they moved to Akron, Colorado, and in 1932, they returned to a farm at Farmer’s Valley at Henderson. In 1941, they moved to Aurora and operated a trucking business. In recent years, she lived with her daughter Audrey in Aurora. On January 31, 1997, she entered the Hearthstone in York. Mildred was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the H.E.O. Club, the Aurora Senior Citizens Center and a Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Warren, three sisters, Emma Reed, Marjorie Dobler, and Jeanette Etherton, and one great grandchild. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two sons, Gene and his wife Geraldine of Fairmont, and Berthal and his wife Marlyce of York; two daughters, Audrey Sweeney of Aurora, and Gay Anne Siebler and her husband Lee of Junction City, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. |
