Beatrice RhodesFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 27, 1998 at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery. OBITUARY: Beatrice Rhodes Beatrice Ione Rhodes, the daughter of Ethan and Bertha (Chaney) Kingston, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on November 28, 1911, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on April 24, 1998, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 26 days. She grew up and graduated from Giltner High School in 1929. She then attended Hastings Business College, and was later employed in local business firms in Giltner and later by the Home Owners Loan Company in Grand Island. On August 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to David Rhodes at her parent’s home in Giltner. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1968. Following their marriage they moved to Pittsfield, Illinois, where they lived for 15 years, and she worked for the Pike County Home Bureau and the office of Price Administration. Later they were partners in the Pittsfield Gamble Store. They returned to Nebraska where she was employed as a secretary for Consumers Public Power District at Grand Island, and when they moved to Giltner she was a bookkeeper and secretary for the Giltner Public Schools for 15 years. In 1995, she moved to Aurora, where she has since resided. Bea was a lifetime member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, belonged to United Methodist Women and was a charter member of the Evening Circle. She was a past member of the National Secretary’s Association, Rebekah Lodge, Giltner Woman’s Club, and the Giltner Project Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Gordon Kingston, two sisters, Clarice Reynolds and Bernice Kingston. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her sister Madge Haymart of Aurora, a niece Eleanor Kasch, of Turpin, Oklahoma, and other relatives and many friends. |
