Esther Rogers

Esther Rogers, age 89 of Grand Island, died Saturday, August 21, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 Tuesday at the Aurora Cemetery with Rev. Jay Mitchell, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Tuesday morning at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

OBITUARY: ESTHER ROGERS

Esther Marie Rogers, the daughter of John and Lydia (Rector) Gray, was born at Fallis, Oklahoma on September 9, 1909 and died at Wood River on August 21, 1999 at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

She grew up in Valentine and Aurora, and graduated from Aurora High School.

On October 20, 1931, she was united in marriage to Carroll A. Rogers at Fremont, Nebraska. The couple lived in California and Aurora, before moving to Grand Island, where they owned and operated Rogers Greenhouse until retiring in 1979.

After her husband’s death on May 16, 1981, she continued to live in Grand Island. In 1998 when her health failed, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Diane, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are 2 sons, Larry of Grand Island and David of Hayden, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
