Ervin Ross

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 28, 1989 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Ervin Ross

Ervin Cecil Ross, the son of Elbert and Jane (Dillon) Ross, was born at Alexandria, Nebraska, on September 9, 1910, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on September 25, 1989, at the age of 79 years and 16 days.

He grew up and attended rural school at Davenport, and graduated from high school at Nora, and then attended Hastings Business School.

On June 6, 1937, he was united in marriage to Bernice Hamel, at Nora. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1982. After their marriage they lived in the Nora area where he worked at different jobs, and in 1940 they moved to Lincoln, and in 1942 they moved to Aurora, and Ervin worked at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. In 1946 he worked at the Phillips 66 Station and later he purchased it. In 1957, he sold the station and worked at Marion’s Farm Supply in Aurora. In 1959, he purchased the Champion Station, and in 1968, he sold the station and was appointed Hamilton County Clerk, a position he held until his retirement in 1975.

Ervin was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and belonged to the Methodist Men. He was a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and served as president two times; he was also president of the Lions Club, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Aurora Country Club, and was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Earl and an infant brother Lawrence.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son Gary, and his wife Jo Ellen of Columbus; 2 brothers, Harry of Ellenton, Florida and Loran of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Neva Thornberry of Nelson, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Friesen of Henderson, Shawna Blase of Hordville and Robyn Ross of Columbus and 3 great-grandchildren.
