Gladys Ross
Gladys Ross, age 94, of Aurora, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Memorial Community Care. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 28th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: GLADYS ROSS Gladys Edith Ross, the daughter of Henry and Katharina (Hefty) Nickolaus, was born in Stockham, Nebraska on December 25, 1914 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 25, 2009, at the age of 94. She grew up on a farm near Stockham and graduated from Stockham High School in 1932. On January 24, 1935, she was united in marriage to Herbert E. Ross in Aurora. They had three children: Yvonne, Murray and Dennis. After her family was raised at the age 55 Gladys went to work at Gerlach Cleaners and then was a dietary assistant at Memorial Hospital for 18 years. Herb passed away on May 24, 2002. After the death of her husband, Gladys moved to East Park Villa and she so loved her friends, the staff and the environment there. Gladys was very active in the EUB Church and then the Aurora United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the Dorcas Circle, serving as leader for several terms. Gladys worked on the Election Board for many years. Gladys never missed a Stockham Alumni Banquet and looked forward to them each and every year. She loved gardening, playing cards and entertaining. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Reuben and Robert Nickolaus. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Yvonne Haun and her husband Norman of Boulder, Colorado; two sons, Murray Ross and his wife Dianne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Dennis Ross and his wife Ann of Wichita, Kansas; 7 grandchildren, Steven Haun, David Haun, Heidi Ross Barlow, Amy Ross Cussimanio, Mindy Ross Gillis, Kristy Ross Finnegan and Aaron Ross and 10 great-grandchildren. |
