Verna Ross
Verna Ross, age 79, of Aurora, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Hamilton Manor. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 7th at Faith Community Church in Aurora. Rev. Fred Nofer will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: VERNA ROSS Verna Mae Ross, the daughter of Franklin Lavern and Della (Taylor) Cady, was born in Imperial, Nebraska on March 8, 1929 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on February 4, 2009, at the age of 79. Verna grew up in Champion, Nebraska. She attended Champion school until the 10th grade and attended 11th and 12th grades at Chase County High School in Imperial, Nebraska. After graduation, she worked at the State Regional Center in Hastings. Verna was united in marriage to Floyd Ross on April 20, 1949 in Ogallala, Nebraska. Verna worked as a CNA at Aurora Memorial Hospital Long Term until her retirement in 1994. Floyd passed away on December 6, 2000. In past years Verna did latch hook projects and helped her husband Floyd attend to yard work. Verna was very fond of dogs and had many different ones over the years. The last dog, Benji, was with her until she had to move to the Hamilton Manor in Aurora in 2007. Verna attended the Faith Community Church in Aurora. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, Franklin Cady and Della Cady; step-mother, Erma (Fleming) Cady, and Michael Shaffer, previous husband of granddaughter, Amanda Kinney. Verna’s mother died when she was 7. At the age of 13 her father married Erma Fleming. Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Dennis Ross of Lincoln, Terry Ross and his wife Judy and Kevin Ross and his wife Donna all of rural Aurora; four grandchildren, Tabitha Ross and fiancé Scott Buchholz, Jr. both of LaVista, Nebraska, Amanda (Daniel) Kinney of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Sarah Ross of Lincoln and Seth Ross of Aurora and step-sister, Mary Lou (Bud) Ferebee of Champion. |
