Dean Ruebsamen

Dean H. Ruebsamen, age 97, of Giltner died Friday afternoon, November 19, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Giltner United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dwight DeLaet will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M., Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to Giltner Cemetery Association or the Giltner United Methodist Church.

OBITUARY: DEAN H. RUEBSAMEN

Dean H. Ruebsamen, the son of Henry C. and Dora (Spear) Ruebsamen, was born in Hamilton County on March 25, 1902 and died at Aurora, Nebraska on November 19, 1999, at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 24 days.

He grew up on a farm between Giltner and Harvard and attended school at East Boag and Hart Schools.

On October 25, 1925, he was united in marriage to Alberta Dawson at Grand Island. After their marriage they lived and farmed southeast of Giltner. To this union were born five sons and two daughters.

After his wife’s death, October 29, 1944, he married Lucille Lorenson at Grand Island on June 3, 1951 and they continued to live on the farm south of Giltner until he retired from farming in 1966. They had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary shortly before her death in 1992.

In retirement he enjoyed traveling. He visited many states as well as Japan and Korea. His hobbies included gardening and raising flowers.

Dean was a member of United Methodist Church in Giltner and served his church in many capacities.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by both wives, three sisters, Audry Rath, Thelma Schmer and Esther Itzen, one brother, Edward, one daughter, Beverly Arne, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by his five sons, Darrel of San Antonio, Texas; Dale of Huntington Beach, California; Neil of Grand Island; Marvin of San Jose, California; Wilbur of Santa Maria, California; one daughter, Merna Valen of Irvine, California; 26 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
