Mildred Russell

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 30, 1995 at the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

Obituary: Mildred McCollum Russell

Mildred (McCollum) Russell, the daughter of Peter and Lettie ( Lindstom) Hedlund, was born in Central City, Nebraska on March 28, 1899 and died at Aurora, Nebraska on March 26, 1995 at the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

The family moved to Aurora when she was 4 years old, where she attended grand school and graduated from high school in 1917. She helped her father in his grocery store several years and worked for Einer Peterson Department Store. She worked in Sidney a few years at J.B. Byar’s Clothing Store and returned to Aurora in 1924 where she worked at the J.M. McDonalds Clothing Store.

She was baptized, confirmed, and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

In 1927 she married Earl McCollum of Des Moines, Iowa. He died in 1935. She and her two sons moved back to Aurora, and for three years she worked at the Cornhuskers Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. After its closing she worked at the J.M. McDonalds Clothing Store.

On February 1, 1975 she married Verne Russell of Grand Island and lived there until his death on June 27, 1983. She moved back to Aurora where she has since resided.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one sister, Elvera Burdock, and 2 brothers Harold and Verlin.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are two sons, Morris of Tacoma, Washington and Earl of Aurora, 3 grandsons, Nathan of Sebastian, Florida, Neal of Winter Park, Florida, and nelson of Heltonville, Indiana, 4 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Jane and Cometa Hedlund of Aurora, Cleda Russell of Greeley, Colorado, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
