Luella Salmon
Luella Salmon, age 83, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora died Tuesday afternoon, November 20, 2001, at her home in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. Rev. Keith Bateman will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery with family graveside services preceding the funeral. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: LUELLA SALMON Luella May Salmon, the daughter of Joseph and Zora (Pitts) Delano, was born in Giltner, Nebraska on May 30, 1918 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on November 20, 2001, at the age of 83 years. She attended country school at Star and graduated from Giltner High School. Luella was united in marriage to A F "Shorty" Salmon on February 21, 1936, at Grand Island. They farmed until 1943, when they moved to Aurora. Luella worked as an aide in the Aurora Hospital. She took one year of L.P.N. training at Lincoln School of Practical Nursing in September 1965. When she returned to Aurora she worked for Hamilton Manor, the Aurora Hospital and also the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island before they moved to LaMesa, California in 1971. In January 1980, they moved to Kearney, where Luella worked at Good Samaritan Hospital. In 1985, they moved to Polk for their retirement, although Luella continued to work as a county nurse. "Shorty" passed away on June 14, 1990. Luella moved to the Hearthstone in York in 1991. In November 2000, she moved to Bickford Cottage in Grand Island. Luella was a member of new member of the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Island. She lived for her family, they were her life. Luella prayed for them no matter if they were near or far, in good times or bad, they were always in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Steve Salmon, a granddaughter, Dawn Arneta Day, a brother, Ben Delano and a sister, Carol Standler. Luella is survived by her 7 children, Rex and his wife Lynn of Lemon Grove, California, Alvin and his wife Marilyn of Aurora, Danny and his wife Kay of Central City, Alfred and his wife Dee Dee of Aurora, Pauline Day and her husband Art of Youngstown, Arizona, LuAnne McDonald and her husband Don of Grand Island and Venida Carlstrom and her husband Bill of Polk; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. |
