Carl Sanderson, Sr.Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 1, 1992 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Mamre Church Cemetery northeast of Marquette, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Carl Sanderson, Sr. Carl August Sanderson, Sr., the son of Alfred and Amanda (Anderson) Sanderson, was born in Hamilton County, on November 24, 1903, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 28, 1992, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 4 days. He grew up across from the Mamre Church northeast of Marquette, and attended Cedar Valley Country School, and then he helped with the family farm. He also went to Detroit and worked in a Dodge plant for a short time. On January 9, 1925, he was united in marriage to Verna Adams at Council Bluffs, Iowa. After his marriage he began farming his own farm, which he did for 9 years, and then they moved to Grand Island, where he had an electrical shop. In 1945, they moved to Aurora, and he worked for Diamond Engineering, as head mechanic, in Grand Island, and the Union Pacific Railroad. He also worked at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant for many years, while maintaining Sanderson Electrical Shop in Aurora, until the last 3 years. He loved playing baseall, and was an avid sports fan. He was offered an opportunity to play minor league baseball, but conditions at the time prevented his taking advantage of the offer. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Gerald, 3 brothers, Leonard, Harold, and Rueben, and one sister Carrie Lindbloom, and 2 cousins, Dr. Amil Johnson and Amy Nichola, which his parents raised. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Verna of Aurora; one son Carl Jr., of Hastings, 2 daughters, Donna Williams of Grand Island, and Marjorie Smith of Marquette; 3 brothers, Albert, Kenneth and John, all of Central City; 5 sisters, Christine Bunch of Omaha, Anna McIntosh of Marquette, Selma Thompsen and Algene Hopkins, both of Omaha, and Dorothy Retzlaf of Arcadia, California; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren. |
