Virginia Schaffert

Virginia Schaffert, age 83, of Aurora, died Sunday, November 5, 2006, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 8th at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sheryl Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Family will receive friends from 6 – 8. OBITUARY: VIRGINIA SCHAFFERT

Virginia Mae Schaffert, the daughter of Chris and Edith (Horst) Happold, was born on a farm near Doniphan, Nebraska on July 3, 1923 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 5, 2006, at the age of 83.

She grew up in Hamilton County. Virginia attended District 47 and graduated from Hampton High School.

Virginia was united in marriage to John Christian Schaffert on April 5, 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church in Hampton. Virginia raised their five children on the family farm south of Aurora. John passed away on April 18, 2001

Virginia was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary, the Hamilton Manor Auxiliary, Garden Club, Hamilton County Extension Club and Bridge Club. Virginia was involved in 4-H Clubs and the Aurora Senior Citizen Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three great-grandchildren, Amron Dale Oswald, Leah Jae Oswald and Jodi Page Oswald; a sister, Marguerite Adams and five brothers, Norman, Don, Fred, Robert and Junior Happold.

Those left to cherish her memory are five children, Sherry (Delmar) Peters of Aurora, John (Lynn) Schaffert II of Rogers, Arkansas, Deryl “Buck” (Kim) Schaffert of Aurora, Greg (Jean) Schaffert of White Plains, New York and Chris (Mary) Schaffert of Aurora; 9 grandchildren, Linda (J.D.) Oswald, Brenda (Jim) King, John (Cauley) Schaffert III, Brian Schaffert, Jesi Rae (Cedrick) McNeal, Jake Schaffert, Joshua Schaffert, Joel Schaffert, Jennifer (Michael) Serrano and Daniel Schaffert; 10 great-grandchildren, Erin, Kate, Jill, Anya, Keri and Lisa Oswald , Brittany and Holly Kramer, John IV and Madelyn Schaffert. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen (Bill) Morlong of Oceanside, California and Joan (Jim) Blake of Canyon, Texas and a brother, Ken Happold of California.
