LaVerne SchoonoverMemorial Services were held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at Higby Mortuary. Inurnment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: LaVerne Schoonover LaVerne Schoonover, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Jensen) Harris, was born at Hastings, Nebraska, on February 24, 1904, and died at the P.E.O. Home in Beatrice, Nebraska, on December 18, 1996, at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 24 days. She grew up and attended school in Hastings, and graduated from Hastings High School. She then attended Kearney Normal School for teacher’s training, and taught in rural Aurora Schools. Her father was with the Burlington Railroad, and in 1921, she moved to Aurora with them. On June 1, 1925, she was united in marriage to Harold Schoonover at Aurora. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1962. She and her husband were owners and operators of the Mazda and Pawnee Theaters in Aurora, and were active in the theater business until 1959. She was also employed at Frey’s Jewelers in Aurora. After their retirement in 1959, they moved to Port Hueneme, California. She entered the P.E.O. Home in Beatrice in 1974. LaVerne was a member of the Aurora Christian Church and later belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice. She was also a 52 year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and over 50 year member of the Aurora Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and 3 sisters. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Jimmie Charles Schoonover of Georgetown, Florida; her daughter, Patty Ruth Kenney and her husband James of Hastings; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and 5 nieces. |
