Arthur Senkbeil

Arthur Senkbeil, age 95, of Aurora died Sunday night, March 12, 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. George E. Damm will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park and Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M., Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

OBITUARY: ARTHUR SENKBEIL

Arthur Senkbeil, the son of Ernest and Tony (Sass) Senkbeil, was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on February 13, 1905 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 12, 2000, at the age of 95 years and 1 month.

He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1922. Arthur began working on construction in 1923. He was interested in carpenter work and worked as a carpenter’s apprentice. After serving his apprenticeship he worked as a carpenter for most of the contractors in Grand Island. Arthur worked on many construction jobs from Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, to Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Arthur married Eileen Rihder in 1930.

Arthur was united in marriage to Norma Schultz on November 4, 1941 in Sabatha, Kansas. Arthur worked as a foreman on jobs in Wyoming, Utah and California. He moved to Lincoln and worked for 10 years at the Air Base. In 1964, he went to Boulder, Colorado and worked as a job superintendent until retiring in 1970. They moved to Osceola where they bought an old house and remodeled it and then sold it. In 1978, they moved to Johnson Lake where he did lots of fishing and gardening. In 1985, they moved to Aurora. Norma passed away in February 1990.

He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years, Lion’s Club member for over 20 years, member of the Platt-Duetsch Club of Grand Island and a member of the AARP and Aurora Senior Center. Arthur enjoyed his time gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons, Timothy and Robert and brother, George Senkbeil.

Survivors include his three sons, Richard of DeSoto, Texas, James of Chapman and Lynn of Lincoln; one daughter, Karen Parish of Gering; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hilda Hubbard of Grand Island.
