John Shafer

Funeral Services were held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, April 9, 1983 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: John Shafer

John Earl Shafer, the son of John Franklin and Fannie (Gwinn) Shafer, was born at Galena, Kansas, on November 2, 1903, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on April 6, 1983 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 4 days.

As a small boy the family moved to Sargent, Nebraska where he graduated from Sargent High School. Following high school he attended Kearney State College. He then taught rural school in the sand hills for two years before attending UNL where he received his BS degree in 1928 and then his DDS degree in 1930.

On March 27, 1931, he was united in marriage to Virginia Helen Gavin at Marysville, Kansas.

From 1930 to 1936 he practiced in Marquette and then he moved to Aurora where he has practiced until his death.

John was past president of Aurora Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Aurora Country Club. He was past master of Aurora Lodge #68 A.F. & A.M., member of York Rite Masons, Scottish Rite and Tehemah Temple of the Shrine in Hastings. John was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He served on several church boards and the Aurora School Board for two terms and was President for two years. He was a member of the Lester S. Harter Post of the American Legion. John belonged to the Aurora United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia; sons, Larry Shafer of Lincoln and Jon Shafer of Tustin, California; sister, Mrs. Ruby Poage of Central City and other family members and friends.
