Virginia ShaferFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 29, 1997 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Virginia Shafer Virginia H. Shafer, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Laughlin) Gavin, was born at Greenwood, Nebraska, on November 27, 1907, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 26, 1997, at the age of 90 years and 29 days. As a young child, the family moved to Burwell, Nebraska, where she graduated from Burwell High School. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Lincoln. On March 27, 1931, she was united in marriage to John Earl Shafer at Marysville, Kansas. They moved to Marquette, Nebraska, where he practiced dentistry. In 1936, they moved to Aurora, where she has since resided. Dr. Shafer preceded her in death on April 6, 1983. For the past year she has resided at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Virginia was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Easter Star and the Daughters of the Nile. She was an avid bridge player, and belonged to many bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Beth. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two sons, Larry of Lincoln, and Jack of Tustin, California; one sister Vivian Holloway of Burwell; 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. |
