Winifred Shepherd
Winifred Shepherd, age 89, of Aurora, died Friday afternoon, March 12, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 15th at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Seth Leypoldt and Rev. Jay Funk will officiate. Interment will be at 1:00 P.M. in the Panama Cemetery at Panama, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: WINIFRED SHEPHERD Winifred E. Shepherd, the daughter of Joseph and Ama Amanda (Craig) Genuchi, was born in Panama, Nebraska on September 20, 1914 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 12, 2004, at the age of 89. She grew up in Panama and graduated from Panama High School. Winifred taught at several country schools and attended classes at York College and Nebraska Wesleyan College in Lincoln. Winifred was united in marriage to Keith Allen Shepherd on August 24, 1937 at Chadron, Nebraska. They served churches in Nebraska, Georgia and Indiana before moving back to Nebraska in 1951. In Nebraska they served churches in Sterling, Ord, Lincoln, Cozad and York. They retired in 1977 and moved to Aurora. Keith passed away on August 20,1986. Winifred was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Dorcas Circle and Conference of United Methodist Women. She led the School of Missions in Lincoln, taught Bible Studies and Youth Groups, and was involved in the choir. Winifred was involved in Cub Scouts and helped in schools, while her children were attending. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O, where she received her 50-year pin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Kenneth Genuchi. Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Dell Allen (Janet) Shepherd of North Platte and Reta Jo (Howard) Wolf of Gilbert, Arizona; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. |
