Edward Skinner

Funeral Services were held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 3, 1998 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Edward Skinner

Edward Carlton “Pink” Skinner, the son of Isaac Newton and Nellie Jane (Whitace) Skinner, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on June 23, 1916, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 31, 1997, at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 8 days.

He grew up near Phillips, and graduated from Phillips High School in 1933. He then attended Kearney State Teacher’s College for two years.

On February 20, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Eggert at Grand Island. Three daughters were born to this union. They farmed and raised live-stock near Phillips, and he served on the Phillips School Board for 9 years, and was active in the Phillips United Methodist Church.

In November of 1961, the family moved to Aurora, and he was employed as a salesman at the Farmer’s Union Association for two years, and then became manager for 18 years, retiring in 1982.

“Pink” was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, had served on the church board, had belonged to the Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Rotary Club, and had served on the Aurora City Council. After retiring, he did volunteer work at the Aurora Plainsman Museum.

He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing baseball, and later in life took up the game of golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers, 1 sister, and his daughter Carol Sue in 1964.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Mary Ellen of Aurora; two daughters, Judith Skinner of Pasadena, California; and Christine Pearson and her husband Jeff of Lowell, Wyoming; one brother Curt of Banning, California; 2 sisters, Martgaret Roedel of McCook, and Bernice Peterson of Aurora; 3 grandsons, Dan, Matt and Doug Russell.
