Marion Smetter

Marion 'Smitty' Smetter, age 65, of Aurora, died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at his home.

Graveside Memorial Service will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 22nd at the Aurora Cemetery. Pastor Jim Garfield will officiate. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: MARION (SMITTY) SMETTER

Marion 'Smitty' Ray Smetter, the son of Frank and Gladys (Hoffmann) Smetter, was born in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska on April 23, 1940 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 18, 2005, at the age of 65.

He was raised in Beaver Crossing and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1957. Smitty served in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years. He was married to Roberta Shoemake in 1961 and they had a daughter, Lori Ann. Smitty was united in marriage to Joanie Doremus in 1967. They lived in Loveland, Colorado for a brief period before moving to Aurora. They had two sons, Dallas and Douglas. Smitty was an over the road truck driver and terminal manager for Wheeler Transport. He was married to Ryta Morgan in 1985. In recent years he worked part-time for Advantage Chevrolet.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Marion is survived by his son, Dallas Smetter, and his wife Dr. Wilma Jo and grandson Reed of Harlingen, Texas; his mother, Gladys Smetter of Seward; two brothers, Jerry (Sandy) Smetter of Doniphan, Terry Smetter of Utica and sister Bonnie (Stan) Litty of Seward.
