Alvin SmithFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 15, 1993 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Alvin Smith Alvin Arthur Smith, the son of Arthur and Melinda (Dishaw) Smith, was born at Ericson, Nebraska on February 7, 1915, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on April 12, 1993, at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 5 days. When he was a child, the family moved to Valley County, where he attended school. On October 2, 1941, he was united in marriage to Delpha Williams, at St. Paul, Nebraska. He served his country during World War II, from November 3, 1942, until his discharge on October 23, 1945, where he attained the rank of Tech Sergeant, and served in Central Europe. After his discharge they farmed at North Loup, Scotia, and St. Paul. In 1962, they moved to Grand Island, and in 1963, they moved to Aurora, where he was a custodian at the Aurora Jr. High School form January 1963 to June of 1985, when he retired. Alvin was affiliated with the Baptist Church all his life, and while living in Aurora he attended the Pleasant View Bible Church. He was also a volunteer at the Plainsman Museum in Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Delpha of Aurora; 5 sons Daryl of Grand Island, James of Wood River, Robert and Dennis of Grand Island, and Anthony of Hampton; 2 daughters, Melinda Thienel of Wood River, and Barbara Hull of Grand Island; 2 brothers, Lloyd and Maynard of Grand Island, 4 sisters, Luella Williams of North Loup, Alice Cook of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Wilma Keown of Grand Island, and Phyllis Elshof of Longmont, Colorado; 19 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. |
