Donald Smith, age 79, of Aurora, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the Hamilton Manor.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 6th at the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church. Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. The family will greet friends from 5 – 7. OBITUARY: DONALD SMITH

Donald William Smith, the son of Lyle and Corena (Coulter) Smith, was born in New Virginia, Iowa on November 17, 1930 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on May 2, 2010, at the age of 79.

He grew up in the New Virginia, Iowa area, graduating from there. Donald served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from November 1951 – November 1953.

On May 22, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marian V. Earhart. Donald worked at Des Moines Drug before starting his career with Phillips Petroleum, while at Phillips Petroleum they lived in Norwalk, Iowa and Audubon, Iowa before moving to Aurora, Nebraska in 1967. Donald retired from Phillips Petroleum after 30 years of service and continued to work in the industry for another nine years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marian Smith of Aurora; two children, Stephen M. (Mary) Smith of Phoenix, Arizona and Cathy Rasmussen of Aurora and two grandchildren, Mackenzie Green of North Platte and Nathan C. Green of Lincoln.
