SMITH David Smith was born February 17, 1941 at York, Nebraska, the son of Homer and Arthea (Rhoads) Smith. He lived in California for a short time before attending school and being raised on a farm near Aurora, Nebraska. David entered the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and discharged in 1966. He served in Texas, Germany and Colorado Springs. David and Annemarie Moedl were married in Aurora on October 1, 1966. They farmed for 2 years in Aurora before returning to the University of Nebraska Lincoln to complete an engineering degree. He worked for Western Electric in Morristown, NJ from 1971-1974, moving to Topeka, Kansas where he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and finally moving to New Town in 1975 where he worked for Northrop-Grumman until the time of his death. David was a man who was concerned about his fellow man. He was a veteran who served his country and was a proud member of the New Town American Legion. He was a former member of the Jaycees, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and served on the New Town School Board. He was a scoutmaster and was instrumental in shaping the minds of many youth in the area. Most of all Dave enjoyed his family. His hobbies were camping, hunting, gardening and any activities he could do with his family. In the later years he did a lot of traveling with Annemarie whom he loved dearly and who cared for him at home with his illness until his death. Dave was not only a big man in stature, but a big man with heart, love and concern for people. Thank you Lord for this giant of a man, for all our lives are better because we knew him.
